Created between 1476 and 1500 by Hieronymus Bosch<\/b>, St. Jerome Praying<\/i> (Saint J\u00e9r\u00f4me en pri\u00e8re<\/i>) is one of the early masterworks of the Renacimiento del Norte<\/b> y Early Netherlandish art<\/b> (currently preserved at the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium).<\/p>\n

Unlike traditional depictions of Saint Jerome as an upright scholar in a study, Bosch portrays the saint prostrate on the earth, clutching a crucifix in deep penitential prayer. He is surrounded by a hauntingly beautiful, surreal landscape filled with decaying organic structures, bizarre botanical forms, and his faithful lion lying nearby. The work highlights Bosch’s unique vision, blending devout religious symbolism with early fantastical elements that would later influence surrealist art for centuries.<\/p>\n
