Painted in 1929 during Malevich’s return to figurative subjects, Girl in the Country (Девушка в деревне) belongs to his celebrated 2nd Peasant Cycle. Following his radical pure geometric abstract phase, Malevich synthesized Suprematist geometry with rural Russian folk motifs and monumental human figures. By depicting the rural female form as faceless, sculptural, and clad in vibrant primary planes of color, Malevich created a timeless icon celebrating human dignity, peasant life, and modern spatial harmony.
