Processus de peinture à la main
This is a hand-painted oil interpretation, not the original 17.01.66 from an important Asian private collection. Our Dafen studio artists capture the striking visual equilibrium between dense pigmented areas and open breathing space in Zao’s 1966 lyrical abstract style.
Hand-painted to order on premium canvas.

17.01.66 relies on a powerful off-centre balance that defines Zao Wou-Ki’s mid‑1960s language. He concentrates visual mass toward one side of the canvas, counterpoised by lighter, more expansive zones on the other. This tension between solid form and void echoes the principles of Chinese shan shui, where heavy mountain forms and empty mist coexist in natural harmony. The eye moves slowly across the canvas, discovering shifts in density rather than locking onto a single focal point.
Colour, Light and Contemplative Mood
The palette centres on grounded earth tones, warm ochre and muted browns, softened by faint pale highlights. There are no harsh clashing colours. Light seeps through translucent paint layers instead of shining from a fixed source, creating a quiet, contained atmosphere. The mood is calm yet dynamic, poised and meditative, a signature quality of Zao’s mature lyrical abstraction in the 1960s.
Hand-Painted Reproduction Focus
Our Dafen artists create this as a hand-painted oil reproduction. It is not the original artwork belonging to the important Asian private collection. Painters carefully match the uneven distribution of visual weight, soft colour transitions and calligraphic gestural marks. Each hand-painted version carries subtle natural differences in stroke and layering; no digital print is used.
Idées de décoration d'intérieur
This grounded abstract suits refined contemporary interiors. It pairs well with warm off-white, light taupe or muted greige walls. It works beautifully as a standalone statement piece in a minimalist living room, study or quiet lounge. Gentle indirect lighting helps reveal the delicate texture and tonal shifts across the canvas.
