Painted in 1846 during his formative residency at the Villa Medici in Rome, Alexandre Cabanel’s Orestes exemplifies the grand tradition of French Academic history painting. Depicting the tragic Greek hero tormented by guilt and hunted by the Furies following the vengeance of his father Agamemnon, the painting displays Cabanel’s incredible mastery of classical human anatomy, dramatic foreshortening, and deep, evocative chiaroscuro.
Recreated by senior history and figure painting specialists at Dafen Village Oil Painting Studio, this reproduction is executed strictly by hand on heavy-duty linen canvas. We never employ digital printing, canvas overlays, or mechanical shortcuts. Utilizing classical academic techniques—including meticulous charcoal underdrawing, structural anatomical modeling, and multi-pass oil glazing—our artists faithfully capture the monumental power, dramatic lighting, and intricate brushwork of Cabanel’s original composition.
