Painted during the height of Caillebotte’s Impressionist period, Skiffs on the Yerres (Les Périssoires) showcases the artist’s deep passion for boating and leisure activities along the Yerres River, south of Paris. Caillebotte combines brilliant outdoor light and expressive brushstrokes with his characteristic sharp perspective, rendering the dark, glass-like water and vibrant green bank with exceptional clarity. The composition captures a moment of serene outdoor activity, bridging Impressionist spontaneity with structural harmony.
