Painted around 1919 during a transformative era in Budapest, Landscape with Bridge at Óbuda Hajógyár marks a crucial transition in László Moholy-Nagy’s artistic evolution. Depicting the industrial shipyard and bridge area at Óbuda (Hajógyár island), this early work merges Expressionism with emerging Dadaist and Constructivist sensibilities. Moholy-Nagy reimagines the traditional landscape through sharp angular forms, brooding atmospheric tones, and structural rhythms, forecasting his eventual leadership at the German Bauhaus and Chicago Institute of Design.
