Robert Delaunay – Man with a Tulip (Portrait of Jean Metzinger) 1906 – Hand-Painted Oil Reproduction by Dafen Village Studio

Painted in 1906 during Robert Delaunay’s dynamic Neo-Impressionist phase, Man with a Tulip is a historical portrait depicting his close friend and fellow avant-garde master, Jean Metzinger. Influenced by Paul Signac and Michel Eugène Chevreul’s color contrast theories, Delaunay employed small, rectangular, mosaic-like paint strokes (“Divisionism”) to build luminous forms and optical vibrations. The portrait captures Metzinger holding a single tulip, blending intimate human portraiture with explosive, jewel-toned color energy that foreshadowed both artists’ future roles in the birth of Cubism and Orphism.
