Juan Gris – Pears and Grapes on a Table (1913) Synthetic Cubism – Hand-Painted Oil Reproduction by Dafen Village Studio

Painted in 1913 during Gris’s fertile period in Céret, France, Pears and Grapes on a Table (Poires et raisins sur une table) is a classic example of Synthetic Cubism. Gris takes traditional still life subjects—a bowl of fruit, pears, grapes, and a tabletop—and reinterprets them using interlocking geometric planes, sharp diagonal axes, and trompe-l’œil textures simulating wood grain and wallpaper patterns. Rather than completely abstracting the scene, Gris retains legible contours of the fruit, creating a harmonious interplay between natural forms and architectural structure. Recreating this artwork requires expert brush precision and multi-layered glazing to capture both the crisp geometric boundaries and delicate surface textures.
