Summit Lake, High Sierras reflects Edgar Alwin Payne’s lifelong passion for the high-altitude wilderness of California’s Sierra Nevada range. Painted en plein air, this composition captures the dramatic grandeur of towering granite massifs mirrored in the icy, still waters of Summit Lake. Payne’s structural understanding of mountain topography, combined with his vibrant palette of cool cobalts, emerald reflections, and sunlit rock faces, evokes both the physical power and peaceful tranquility of the High Sierra.
