Hand-Painted Oil Painting Reproduction “Phedre” by Alexandre Cabanel – Dafen Village Studio

Exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1880, Alexandre Cabanel’s Phèdre stands as one of the crowning tragic achievements of late 19th-century French Academicism. Inspired by Jean Racine’s classical tragedy and Euripides’ ancient Greek myth, the painting depicts the languishing Queen Phaedra overcome by fatal passion, remorse, and despair as she reclines on a lavishly adorned couch while her attendants look on with deep concern. The original masterpiece resides in the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, France.

Recreated by senior master painters at Studio de peinture à l'huile du village de Dafen, this reproduction is crafted strictly by hand on heavy-duty linen canvas. We strictly avoid digital printing, canvas transfers, or automated under-layers. Following classical academic technique, our artists build up subtle skin tones, deep atmospheric shadows, and intricate fabric textures layer by layer using traditional multi-pass glazing to preserve the dramatic weight and emotional depth of Cabanel’s original composition.
