Painted around 1754 by François Boucher, First Painter to King Louis XV, Mars and Venus (Mars et Venus) explores the classical allegorical theme of Love triumphing over War. Depicting Venus, the Goddess of Beauty, relaxing beside Mars, the God of War, the artwork contrasts the soft, sensual grace of Venus and her attending putti with the disarmed armor and martial symbols of Mars. Boucher’s signature light-filled palette, swirling draperies, and harmonious composition exemplify mid-18th-century French courtly taste, created to adorn aristocratic interiors and royal residences.
Studio Craftsmanship & Quality Highlights
-
100% Pure Hand-Painted Execution: Built up layer-by-layer from scratch using classical glazing, subtle skin-tone modeling, and fine impasto oil techniques. Absolutely no digital prints, gel transfers, or canvas overlays.
-
Archival Materials: Crafted on high-density linen-cotton blended canvas using professional-grade oil pigments that offer superior color retention and resist yellowing over time.
-
Monumental Detail & Fidelity: Every fold of shimmering satin, intricate detail of the metallic armor, soft cloud gradient, and playful cupid form is rendered with painstaking brushwork that commands attention on a grand scale.
-
Decades of Expertise: Painted by senior master artists at Dafen Village Studio with decades of specialized experience in grand European museum-quality reproductions.
