About the Composition & Artistic Legacy

This masterwork recreation represents the quintessence of 18th-century Venetian Veduta painting. Modeled after Giovanni Antonio Canal, il Canaletto (1697–1768), the composition offers a sweeping panorama across the Bacino di San Marco, looking east toward the entrance of the Grand Canal and the civic plaza.

From left to right, the painting showcases Venice’s architectural crown jewels: the heavy rusticated facade of the Zecca (Mint), Sansovino’s Renaissance Libreria Marciana, the open entrance of the Piazzetta di San Marco with its monumental granite columns, and the famous pink-and-white marble facade of the Palazzo Ducale (Doge’s Palace).
