Hand-Painted Oil Painting Reproduction “Study for the Death of Moses” by Alexandre Cabanel – Dafen Village Studio

Created in 1850 during his final year at the Villa Medici in Rome, this Study for the Death of Moses (Etude pour la Mort de Moïse) represents Alexandre Cabanel’s crucial preparatory oil sketch for his celebrated 1851 canvas (now housed in the Dahesh Museum of Art). The study captures the core dramatic concept: Jehovah accompanied by heavenly hosts receiving the soul of the prophet Moses atop Mount Nebo. Displaying freer, more spontaneous brushwork than the finished Salon piece, this study provides an intimate look into Cabanel’s creative process and mastery of dramatic chiaroscuro.

Recreated by senior history and sacred art specialists at Estudio de pintura al óleo de la aldea de Dafen, this reproduction is executed strictly by hand on heavy-duty linen canvas. We never employ digital printing, canvas transfers, or mechanical overlays. Following classical academic techniques, our artists faithfully recreate the energetic brushwork, rich cloud formations, and luminous atmospheric depth of Cabanel’s original 1850 study.
