Hand-Painted Oil Painting Reproduction “Saint Jean Baptist” by Alexandre Cabanel – Dafen Village Studio

Executed in 1849 during Cabanel’s prestigious residency at the Villa Medici in Rome, Alexandre Cabanel’s Saint Jean Baptist (Saint Jean Baptiste) showcases the artist’s full absorption of Italian High Renaissance traditions filtered through 19th-century French Academic rigor. The painting depicts John the Baptist seated in a rocky wilderness, holding his iconic reed cross while delivering his prophetic message. Cabanel balances naturalistic landscape textures with ideal body proportions, luminous flesh tones, and a serene, contemplative atmosphere.

Recreated by senior sacred and figurative painting specialists at Dafen Village Oil Painting Studio, this reproduction is executed strictly by hand on heavy-duty linen canvas. We never employ digital printing, canvas transfers, or mechanical overlays. Following classical academic techniques, our artists build up subtle skin glazes, atmospheric background lighting, and tactile fabric folds layer by layer using multi-pass oil glazing to capture the heroic scale and spiritual dignity of Cabanel’s original canvas.
