Maurice Denis – The Story of Psyche: Panel 5 (1908) Symbolist Art – Hand-Painted Oil Reproduction by Dafen Village Studio

Commissioned in 1908 by the celebrated Russian collector Ivan Morozov for the music room of his Moscow mansion, Maurice Denis’s five-panel ensemble The Story of Psyche (L’Histoire de Psyché) represents a triumph of decorative Symbolism and Neo-Traditionalism. Panel 5 depicts the climactic resolution of Apuleius’s classical myth: before the assembled Olympian gods, Jupiter grants Psyche divine immortality, celebrating her eternal union with Eros (Cupid). Denis infuses the ancient tale with gentle Mediterranean light, soft decorative contours, and harmonious pastel harmonies, transforming mythological narrative into modern mural art.
