Passion Altarpiece – Central Panel (c.1455) by Dirk Bouts – Hand-Painted Oil Painting Reproduction | Dafen Village Canvas Art

Painted around 1455 by Early Netherlandish master Dirk Bouts (also known as Dieric Bouts), the central panel of the Passion Altarpiece ($191 \times 145\text{ cm}$) is a defining masterpiece of Northern Renaissance sacred art (housed in the Capilla Real in Granada, Spain).

The centerpiece depicts the Crucifixion of Christ set against a vast, panoramic landscape that stretches into distant blue horizons—a hallmark of Bouts’ revolutionary spatial perspective. Surrounding the cross are sorrowful figures, including the grieving Virgin Mary, Saint John, and Roman soldiers. Bouts is celebrated for his understated emotional restraint, crisp linear details, radiant jewel-toned garments, and groundbreaking mastery of atmospheric distance.
