Juan Gris – Still Life with Checked Tablecloth (1915) Synthetic Cubism – Hand-Painted Oil Reproduction by Dafen Village Studio

Painted during the summer of 1915 in Beaulieu-lès-Loches, Still Life with Checked Tablecloth represents a monumental pinnacle of Juan Gris’s Synthetic Cubism. In this expansive composition, Gris arranges a tabletop laden with a coffee pot, wine bottle, glasses, bowl of fruit, and newspaper over a bold red-and-white checkered tablecloth. The composition operates on multiple visual planes simultaneously, blending sharp diagonal perspectives, rich textures, and dramatic contrasts of light and shadow. Recreating this masterpiece demands exceptional technical precision to maintain the crisp geometric grid while capturing the rich depth of oil glazes.
