Created around 1846 during Cabanel’s stay in Rome following his Prix de Rome victory, this Study for ‘Fallen Angel’ (Étude pour L’Ange Déchu) serves as the crucial preparatory oil painting for his famous 1847 masterpiece. The study focuses intensely on Lucifer’s tear-filled, wrathful eyes and muscular torso, capturing the raw psychological drama of rebellion and tragic downfall with incredible vigor.
Recreated by senior master painters at Dafen Village Oil Painting Studio, this reproduction is executed strictly by hand on heavy-duty linen canvas. We never employ digital printing, canvas transfers, or mechanical overlays. Utilizing classical academic painting methods—including delicate charcoal underdrawing and dynamic multi-pass oil glazing—our artists faithfully capture the dramatic lighting, expressive brushwork, and searing emotional intensity of Cabanel’s original oil study.
